Assess the material together with its backing
Check the complete material construction: the surface, foam and any layer underneath. The backing should suit the application method and the shape of the headlining.
In the INTER TAP range, lamination with foam but without a technical knitted backing is used, among other applications, for headlinings that need shaping. Confirm the right option with an adviser and by checking a sample.

Check flexibility and thickness
Examine the contours, edges and areas around lights, grab handles and sun visors. The material must be able to fit these areas using the chosen installation method.
Assess the final version with its foam backing. A quick decision based on a thin sample of the knitted surface alone may not reflect how the finished material behaves.
Try fitting the material to a section with a similar shape. Do not assume that stretching it harder will solve every problem around a bend or fold.
Compare the colour inside the car
The headlining covers a large area and sits close to the pillars and trim. Compare the sample with these elements, as well as with any photograph on a screen.
With delicate, lightweight materials, the foam colour can affect how the surface looks after lamination. Confirm preparation and bonding methods
Assess the substrate, material, foam and adhesive as a complete system. Agree on how to prepare the panel and the application conditions with your installer. Follow the adhesive manufacturer’s recommendations for the intended use.
Carry out a compatibility test before working on the whole headlining. Check how the material and foam react to the adhesive, and how the finished surface looks.
